Emerge News | June 2023

The first quarter of 2023 has come and gone, and First MainStreet Insurance (FMSI) didn’t blink an eye after closing four deals in the fourth quarter of 2022. Bolstered by some amazing agency partners and a suite of core carrier relationships, FMSI continued its path forward to start off the new year strong. By adding four new agencies to the platform, our efforts continue to be rewarded in the marketplace. Surrounded by more than 40 agency locations and the strength of TrueNorth helping propel it forward, FMSI has continued to climb the ranks of relevancy in today’s ultra-competitive independent insurance landscape.

First MainStreet Welcomes FOUR new agencies!

Lauer & Lauer Insurance, based in West Union, IA, was FMSI’s first acquisition of 2023. Led by fourth-generation insurance agent, Michael Lauer, this agency continues our strong footprint in northeast Iowa. Established in 1954, Lauer & Lauer comes to FMSI with a great client base, strong reputation in their marketplace and a fine list of carrier partners. We are thrilled to bring the likes of Michael and team onboard as they continue their journey of growth.

“Partnering with First MainStreet Insurance was an easy decision to make,” states Michael Lauer. “Their focus on staying local was crucial, and the expansion of our market offerings is beneficial.”

The second acquisition of 2023 was a private fold-in to one of our longstanding southern Iowa locations. While privately done, we are very excited to execute this agreement and to continue to transact profitable business in the area. Boasting a strong grouping, carrier partners and a long list of valued clients, we are poised for additional growth in this area.

The next agency to be announced is the addition of Dubuque Insurance Services in Dubuque, IA. A start-up agency dating back to the mid-1990s, Phil and Debbie Meyer have been a constant in the insurance landscape of this northeastern Iowa town. Through Phil and Debbie’s leadership, Dubuque Insurance Services has seen impressive growth since its founding. Joining us in ownership in this new venture is Thad Meyer, nephew to Phil and Debbie. Along with Phil and Debbie, Thad will continue to build on the legacy that was established 28 years ago. The FMSI team is proud to have found a partner here and we are ecstatic to grow on what is already a solid foundation.

Last, but certainly not least, is the merger of Lillis Insurance Agency in Williamsburg, IA. Since its founding in 1937, Lillis Insurance has been a constant presence in this quintessential Iowan town. Joining us in an ownership position is our newest partner, Dan Lillis. A multi-generational agency in a great eastern Iowa town, Lillis Insurance is poised for great things on our platform. Having taken over from his father, Dan has grown the agency immensely and will be a valued partner of FMSI. This agency is set for big things inside the company, and we look forward to many years of positive forward momentum.

"With what we were seeing in the insurance industry, we knew we had to find a partner for the future," shares Dan Lillis. "After talking with several potential suitors, I felt that the First MainStreet model worked best for our agency, our employees, and most importantly, our clients and the communities we serve."

Local Love, FMSI’s Outreach Program

One of the cornerstones of FMSI is our dedication to our local communities. We strive to be valued members of the cities we partner in. Therefore, in early 2021, the executive team of FMSI established “Local Love,” an outreach program launched across the firm to further support our agency partner’s charitable giving.

The Local Love program allows us to give back to civic needs and double down on our already generous giving. In 2022 alone, we gave $75,000 to over 30 of our partner agency communities. This does not include our time dedicated to various charitable endeavors. It is our pleasure to share with you a cherished story of the great impact Local Love has had on one of our communities--Centerville, Iowa.

Our History
Our Process

“In 2022, my home agency and First MainStreet Insurance collectively came together to donate $5,000 to Kolton’s Courts in Centerville,” Amy Gonnerman of North Side Insurance said. "This cause is very near and dear to my heart. In November 2021, Delaney Evers, tourism director for the City of Centerville, identified a need for outdoor basketball courts in the Centerville community.

She was quickly joined by the Centerville Young Professionals, PACT [Promoting Appanoose & Centerville Together], All-Play, Inc. and the City of Centerville. Planning and fundraising began almost immediately and to date nearly $100,000 has been raised for the project, with many in-kind donations committed as well. The facility will include three top-notch basketball courts, a playground area, and a shelter/restroom. Construction is slated to begin in spring of 2023.

This project is named in memory and honor of Kolton Gonnerman, my son who unexpectedly passed away in an auto accident in July 2020. He was a great role model and leader among the youth in the Centerville community and this project will be a perfect tribute to him. The entire community has rallied around the project. I’m so proud of North Side Insurance and FMSI’s engagement in this project that will have such a positive impact on the Centerville Community.”

As you can quickly see, FMSI has no slowdown in sight. Armed with great partners, a strong business plan, and many people doing great things, the road ahead for FMSI is long and prosperous. We value each and every location while striving to create new solutions for our client base. Good days are ahead, the future is bright, and we are OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
